A Letter from Esai Morales: SAG-AFTRA Presidential Candidate

To My SAG-AFTRA Brothers and Sisters,

We’re in the final days of our Election and I just wanted to take this time to reach out to you.

I want you to hear from me how important this election is. How much I truly care and want what’s best for all of us and yes, even our opposition.

I’m a unionist at heart. I come from a union family. We abhor abuse of any kind, but especially of those who sacrifice to follow their true calling in this most challenging of industries.

I am very concerned about the direction I see our beloved Union heading. I'm also concerned about our Pension Plan's precarious state. I, like many of you have contributed my whole career into it. I want it to keep us from ever being a burden on our children or others when we may need it most.

There is an ugly culture growing within our Union. One of false accusations, power and fear mongering, non-transparency and obfuscation.

As your President, I promise you, that kind of leadership and culture will come to an immediate end.

When it comes to our bread and butter, our Contracts, you can judge for yourselves whether or not they’re keeping up.

Residuals are not keeping pace. Our Contracts aren’t moving forward, they’re eroding. Our Commercial performers know their business is in serious trouble.

Yet the current leadership is continually telling us that everything is GREAT.

Well … We all know better. At least those who've been paying attention. Sadly too few of us are really aware of what's going on and I can assure you we will tackle that debilitating apathy head on.

I ask for your vote. I'm asking from a deep well within my heart for you to not only vote, but to also do your part and seek at least a handful of your other fellow performers to make a concerted effort to not ignore this most important of responsibilities.

For when we participate and know our value we not only take care of ourselves but of each other and THAT'S what being a union member is all about.

I also ask that you support my Team:

Jane Austin for National Secretary/Treasurer.
Jane Austin for L.A. Local President.
David Jolliffe and Pat Richardson for Los Angeles VP’s.
And the entire MembershipFirst Slate of Candidates.
