Sarah Ann Masse (IMDB)
Delegate
Sarah is an LA-based, bisexual, and invisibly disabled actor, writer, singer, filmmaker, and comedian who was one of the first people to come forward about Weinstein. After facing career retaliation from speaking up about abuse, she launched ‘Hire Survivors Hollywood‘ – an initiative that works to end retaliation against survivors of sexual violence within the entertainment industry. A proud, 11 year SAG-Aftra member, she has spent the past two terms as an active and vocal member of several SAG-Aftra committees including The National and LA Local Sexual Harassment Prevention Committees, the National Performers with Disabilities Committee, the LA GAPP Committee, and the LA NextGen Committee, and has also chaired several subcommittees and working groups.
Issues I care about:
As a queer, disabled, female survivor of sexual violence, I understand the challenges that so many of our members face, which is why I have committed myself to advocate for equity, inclusion, safety, and accessibility for all members - especially those who have been historically marginalized. My passion for these issues prompted me to create an organization - Hire Survivors Hollywood - that is dedicated to making tangible change in the industry, to work with nonprofits and lawmakers to change legislation, and to commit myself to SAG-Aftra service. I understand how to move the needle forward, by using my voice, my lived experience, and existing legal precedents. And - as anyone who has been in a SAG-Aftra meeting with me knows - I have a unique skill to distill the needs and desires of our members into effective language for motions and proposals that create tangible actions which directly improve our experiences both inside and outside our union. Motions that I made or helped compose have been directly responsible for meaningful changes that have massively benefited our members, including the safety message that is shown on screen at the beginning of all of our meetings and improvements in sexual violence prevention within our union. After two terms of serving on committees, I am now eager to serve as a delegate so I can take the lessons and skills I've learned to our convention. I would be honored to earn your vote and to continue to serve our union as a representative for survivors of sexual violence, disabled folks, queer folks, and for all folks who have been harmed or marginalized within our industry.
