SELF-TAPING GUIDELINES & PROTECTIONS
Ask yourself: How come I now have to be a professional camera crew, editing team, & tech expert to meet self-taping demands from casting?
ISSUE: Recent technological advancements have made it possible for auditions to be recorded and submitted by the performer. Currently there is no industry standard in terms of self-taping instructions, wardrobe & equipment expected, editing skills and software required, or delivery formats & services.
WHY IS THIS AN ISSUE:
This has added issues, such as additional cost to our members in terms of time and/or money, safety concerns during COVID, and cases of excessive numbers of tapes requested and unreasonable expectations from casting or production. Most of our performer members lack consistent employment that sustains a living. Therefore, they are easily exploitable by overly burdensome self-taping instructions and requirements.
WHAT IS OUR SOLUTION:
An industry standard with reasonable limitations and guidelines created by SAG-AFTRA, in conjunction with the CSA, will help protect our members from such exploitation.
